We Want to See Charleston Through Your Eyes
Everyone has a Charleston story.
Maybe you were born here and have watched the Lowcountry change over decades. Maybe you arrived five years ago, fell in love with the city, and decided to stay. Maybe your family has been here for generations. Or perhaps you came for a weekend, returned for another visit, and eventually realized Charleston had somehow become home.
Whatever your story is, Charleston Through Their Eyes wants to hear it.
And we’re currently looking for guests.
This Show Is About People, Not Just Places
There is no shortage of content about Charleston.
You can find videos about the best restaurants, the most beautiful homes, the beaches, historic landmarks, hotels, shopping, plantations, architecture, and the endless lists of “10 Things You Have to Do in Charleston.”
Those can be useful. But Charleston Through Their Eyes is trying to do something different.
We want to understand Charleston through the people who actually experience it.
Instead of simply asking, “What makes Charleston special?” we want to ask:
“What makes Charleston special to you?”
Because the answer changes depending on who is sitting across from us.
A Charleston native may see the city very differently from someone who moved here last year.
A restaurant owner may experience Charleston differently from a teacher.
A college student may have a completely different perspective than someone who has lived here for 70 years.
An artist, firefighter, tour guide, chef, business owner, musician, historian, retiree, fisherman, healthcare worker, realtor, bartender, parent, student, carriage driver, or someone working behind the counter at a neighborhood shop all have different Charlestons.
We want to hear about yours.
You Don't Have to Be Famous
This is important.
You do not need to be a celebrity, historian, politician, influencer, or Charleston expert to be a guest on Charleston Through Their Eyes.
You just need a story and a willingness to share it.
In fact, some of the conversations we're most interested in having are with people whose stories might otherwise never be recorded.
We want to talk with people of different ages, backgrounds, professions, neighborhoods, experiences, and viewpoints.
Some guests may have lived here their entire lives.
Others may have chosen Charleston as their home.
Some may love almost everything about Charleston.
Others may have a complicated relationship with the city.
That's okay.
This isn't about finding people who all see Charleston the same way.
It's about discovering how differently Charleston can look depending on whose eyes you're looking through.
What Would We Talk About?
Think of the interview as a conversation rather than an interrogation.
We might talk about how you came to Charleston or what it was like growing up here. We might discuss your favorite places, foods, traditions, restaurants, beaches, neighborhoods, memories, and hidden corners of the Lowcountry.
We may talk about what's changed.
What you love.
What you don't love.
Where you take visitors.
Where you go when you want to get away from visitors.
The Charleston experiences everyone should have at least once.
And perhaps a few things tourists never discover.
Most importantly, we'll talk about your Charleston.
There are no perfect answers because there isn't one perfect version of this city.
Who Are We Looking For?
Pretty much anyone with a connection to the Charleston area and an interesting perspective.
Maybe you're 25 and just beginning your life here.
Maybe you're 85 and remember a Charleston that most of us never experienced.
Maybe your family has lived in the Lowcountry for generations.
Maybe you're the first person in your family to call Charleston home.
Maybe you work in hospitality and meet visitors from around the world.
Maybe you own a small business.
Maybe you're an artist at the Charleston City Market.
Maybe you work on the water.
Maybe you're raising a family here.
Maybe you retired here.
Maybe you're building something, preserving something, teaching something, cooking something, or simply enjoying life in the Lowcountry.
If Charleston is part of your story, we'd like to hear from you.
Know Someone We Should Meet?
You don't have to apply only for yourself.
One of the best ways we can discover interesting guests is through the people who know them.
We all know someone who tells great stories.
The neighbor who seems to know everyone.
The grandmother with incredible memories of old Charleston.
The restaurant owner who's watched a neighborhood transform.
The person who knows every hidden fishing spot in the Lowcountry.
The local character everyone seems to recognize.
The friend who moved here and has an unforgettable story about why.
Send them this invitation.
Tell them, “You should do this.”
Because they probably won't nominate themselves.
And those may turn out to be some of our best conversations.
Want to Be a Guest?
We've created a short application where you can tell us a little about yourself and your connection to Charleston.
You don't need to prepare a presentation. You don't need professional media experience. And you definitely don't need to have all the answers.
Just tell us who you are and why you think your Charleston story might make for an interesting conversation.
Apply to be a guest here:
https://tinyurl.com/charlestontte

Submitting the form doesn't obligate you to participate. It simply gives us an opportunity to learn more about you and potentially reach out about an interview.
And if you're reading this thinking, “I'm probably not interesting enough,” we'd encourage you to apply anyway.
You might be surprised.
Because Charleston isn't just Rainbow Row, church steeples, cobblestones, shrimp and grits, beaches, historic homes, and postcard sunsets.
Charleston is people.
People who were born here.
People who chose here.
People who work here.
People who remember what used to be here.
People who are helping shape what comes next.
Thousands of people. Thousands of stories. Thousands of different perspectives on the same remarkable place.
We want to capture as many of those perspectives as we can.
One conversation at a time.
And maybe the next Charleston story we tell...
will be yours.
